Preventative Maintenance Programs

Georgia Western, Inc. has established a Preventive Maintenance Program (PM) for valve actuators to assist our customers in the operation of their electric valve actuators at the plant site. This program allows the owner to have meaningful, accurate information in which to gauge the reliability of the motor operated valves in the plant, as well as schedule and budget for future maintenance needs.

Inspection Points Covered:

· Record all name plate data from identification tags on the actuator, motor and if applicable, the gearbox

· Visual inspection for damage to the outside of the actuator

· Inspect for grease leaks that may have developed on the actuator

· Manually stroke the actuator to check operation

· Remove a small grease sample to check for water or other foreign matter

· Open limit switch cover to check for the presence of grease or water

· Inspect for loose, damaged or hard brittle wires

· Inspect for corroded contacts

· Electrically operate the actuator to check for noisy bearings or binding during the valve stroke

· Check current draw on the motor during the operation to verify amperage draw is within nameplate tolerances

MOV Capabilities Packing & Gasketing Specialized Lubricants

Upon completion of the PM inspection, a detailed data sheet for each actuator will be provided with actuator/motor information, concerns or degradations that were detected, as well as suggested corrective action. Where applicable, and estimate will be sent showing the approximate time needed to make repairs and an estimated cost for required parts.
